Guys! It’s time for a WIP update!

HUMANS!

How’s everyone doing this morning?? I’m caffeinated and ready to go. I’ve been a busy girl with PTPR stuff for the last week but I have been writing almost every night. I just haven’t had the time to update you guys here on the bloggy blog.

Dance With the Devil is huffing right along. Two nights ago, I axed two entire chapters. It hurt like hell but they were locking up the story. Rather than try to make them fit, I removed them altogether and pushed on. I’m back up to just shy of 48,000 words. Although I haven’t been blogging daily, I have been updating the WIP Update sidebar widget. Even if I’m not here, I’m still here, sort of. Looking at my story map, I’m still sticking to my prediction of finishing out around 70,000 words.

Untitled Executioner #2 hasn’t really moved much and it won’t until Dance With the Devil is done. I don’t plan on putting much focus into it until both Dance and Bad Wolf are in with my editor. However, I am constantly trying to work out the title. It would be nice to stop referring to it as E2. lol

I have a new fantasy project! I’ve been toying with an idea for a while now and have started actually planning it out. Just like E2, I’m not pouring a lot of time into it until Dance With the Devil is finished. It doesn’t have a title yet and the story map appears to have been drawn by a very intoxicated cartographer, so I don’t have a lot of info to give you. What I can tell you is, like all of my other writing, it’s still paranormal/supernatural in nature like Underworld, but as far as setting and tone goes, it’s something closer to Game of Thrones. My aim is to write an epic fantasy story but with the feel (and easy reading) of an urban fantasy novel. I know a lot of people who don’t like epic fantasy because of the usual dense, flowery language but I know it can be done. I’m a big fan of the Xanth novels by Piers Anthony and I always felt he wrote great epic fantasy without speaking over the reader’s head. That’s what I want to aim for with this novel. That’s another thing! It will be a standalone novel with a completed ending. No cliffhangers and no continuing story. That being said, I may write more in the same world later on down the road, but any books that come from this world will be standalones. Part of my excitement with this project is the extras I’ll have for you guys. I’m having a map of the world I’m creating so you’ll have a visual layout of the land to refer to when reading. There will also be a few other things but I’m going to keep them under my hat until release time. My hope is to build a world where I can eventually invite fantasy writers to pen their own standalone stories within my world.

(My fantasy novel planning board.)

That’s it for today. I’m off to go bust out some PTPR work. I have a long to-do list today so I likely wont be back to writing until later tonight.

Talk to you all soon!

Hey Guys! I just completed my first entry in the Flash Fiction Challenge!

Good afternoon, humans!

So this week’s news is a little bit of fun. 🙂 I recently launched a weekly writing exercise through my PR company called the Flash Fiction Challenge and in the wee hours this morning, I posted my first challenge entry.

The challenge assignment everyone was given was:

“Hold on. You died.”
“Yeah, well, it didn’t stick.”

For those unfamiliar, with a flash fiction challenge, you’re given a prompt to build a super-short story around it posted on Wattpad. For example, my first challenge ended up finishing out at 1,669 words (most novels are 40,000-80,000 words long). See? Super short. 🙂

If you enjoy writing, whether it be as a hobby or professionally, you should consider joining! It’s a quick little activity every week to keep your writer brain in shape. It’s totally FREE and a lot of fun. 🙂

READ MY FIRST CHALLENGE ENTRY!

(It only takes about 3 minutes.)

Happy reading!

NIGHTSHADE now available to read for FREE on WattPad!

A STANDALONE BONNIE BENNETT BOOK IN THE VAMPIRE DIARIES / THE ORIGINALS UNIVERSE.

Bourbon, jazz, and streets soaked in magic. New Orleans is an infamous supernatural playground, and the perfect place for a witch to feel right at home.

When Bonnie Bennett travels to The Big Easy for some much needed rest and relaxation, she unexpectedly encounters a few familiar faces. Despite their violent history and her resulting efforts to steer clear of Mikaelson family drama, she soon finds herself agreeing to help Klaus when his brother Elijah goes missing. Assuming they could get a little aid from the local covens, they quickly realize the eldest original vampire isn’t the only mysterious disappearance in the Crescent City.

The clock is ticking. With the help of her unlikely ally and a handful of new friends from the French quarter, Bonnie must face off with a dark force fueled by vengeance and hell bent on wiping out every New Orleans witch in existence.

*Originally published as part of the Bennett Witch Chronicles series in the Amazon Vampire Diaries Kindle Worlds. With the dissolution of Amazon’s Kindle Worlds program, I’m making the story available on Wattpad for free.

WHAT READERS ARE SAYING…

“The storyline was so well written and captivating that I did not put my tablet down until I turned the last page.”

“I absolutely love this addition to The Vampire Diaries, The Bennett Witch Chronicles. There are some fabulous authors included in this series with some outstanding reads. Jena Gregoire’s Nightshade happens to be one of them. This book is full of mystery, suspense, intrigue, magic, action, and humor and includes appearances from two of the original vampires residing in New Orleans, Klaus and Elijah Mikaelson, as well as Bonnie’s Mystic Fall’s friends. Ms. Gregoire does a wonderful job of world building to capture your attention from the start to the end of this story. Bonnie and her friends are well written characters with a great storyline that includes lots of excitement, mystery and magic. This is a compelling book you do not want to miss out on.”

IT HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAS BEGUUUUUUUUUUUUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THE DEVIL YOU KNOW IS LIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!! #excerpt #giveaway

SOMETIMES YOU HAVE TO FIGHT FIRE WITH FIRE.

Following a drunken night together, the vampire Michael “Vegas” Tremayne takes off with no explanation, leaving Deziree Davanzati to wonder if they’d made a terrible mistake. Rather than obsess about it, Dez spends most of her time at Onyx, the rock club she owns and operates for the supernatural citizens of New York City. All are welcome-werewolves, witches, and anyone else willing to play nice while under her roof and pay their tab at the end of the night.

After two weeks of radio silence, Vegas returns with alarming news. For the first time in more than four centuries, there is reason to believe a pureblood demon is walking among them. They suspect someone from the the Council may be behind the creature’s return, but to what end?

With the Sentinel Stone missing, they’re down to the wire and don’t know who to trust. Will Dez and Vegas stop the demon in time? Or will Hell itself be unleashed upon the world?

The final countdown is ON! Here’s some excerpty goodness! #WhispersInTheEther

Okay, kids.

The countdown is on.

As of right now, we’re down to less than 2 days before the Hellfire series launch begins with the release of Whispers in the Ether (a Hellfire world anthology) and The Devil  You Know (Hellfire book one). I’m not going to take up too much of your time tonight because I am eyebrow deep in the draft polishing of Dance With the Devil (it goes off to my editor this week!) but figured I would do a little excerpt-laden drive by.  🙂

Whisper in the Ether features a brand new short story called Reckoning. This story introduces you to a whole new cast of characters, all of which will play starring roles in my upcoming Executioner series. In this excerpt, you get to see Jamie Hayes, the Executioner female lead, and Marcel Cross, the alpha of the Manhattan werewolf pack.

Enjoy!

“You’re the head honcho, right?” I looked up from my phone to find the cute blonde from the alleyway sitting across from me. I’d been so engrossed in my book I hadn’t noticed her sit down. I hit the power button and gave her my full attention.

“Excuse me?”

El jefe? The Big Cheese? The Don?” I continued to stare at her, waiting for the real question. She huffed out of a frustrated sigh and rested her arms on the table, leaning in toward me. “Look,” she demanded, slamming a twenty dollar bill down on the table, “you’re in charge of that motley band of assholes, are you not?” I peeked around her to see Dylan and Ace having a bromancey high five over something almost certainly stupid.

“I am,” I admitted begrudgingly.

“Good, then this is for you.” She slid the twenty toward me.  “Your next few drinks are on me if you promise to keep that one,” she turned and pointed to Ace, “in line. If you don’t, I will.” Although she didn’t explain further, the warning was clear.

At first, I chuckled imagining her giving him a face full of liquor, but then I remembered the throwing blades. Provided they’re not made of silver, they wouldn’t do much to him except maybe teach him a lesson. Not a bad idea.

“Did he touch you?” I asked, worried he’d already overstepped his bounds.

“No, you would know if he did. Keep his ass in line. I’m not in the mood, and it’s, like, your job or whatever.”

Without another word, she scooted out of the booth and walked away, leaving the twenty behind. I watched as she made her way to a seat at the far end of the bar away from the bulk of the crowd. Not thirty seconds after she sat down, Ace made like he was going to try his luck with her, but Dylan spotted me glaring at him. He grabbed Ace’s arm before he could get too far and pulled him in to whisper something in his ear. Ace turned to me, wide eyed, and nodded in obedience. I tipped my hat in thanks and returned my attention to the sexy mystery girl. Only her chair was empty.

Her glass and her jacket were both gone.  I glanced around the bar, but didn’t see her anywhere. Probably for the best.
