SOME SECRETS ARE BETTER OFF LOCKED AWAY.

Dez is on the run from the covens. Nearly six months have passed since her father, the demon Asmodeus, opened a gateway allowing countless of his kind to spill onto our plane of existence. Using her newfound abilities to hunt down the strays, Dez’s life has become a never-ending cycle of violence and bloodshed, punctuated by the paranoia of constantly looking over her shoulder for the Council’s vampire assassin.

When she receives an unexpected phone call from an old friend, Dez makes her way to the northern Arizona desert. There she finds a message waiting for her from beyond the grave, a message forcing her to confront the one thing she’s been dreading for months.

Now Dez is haunted by a ghost from her past and faced with the secret truth of her origins. With her life and the lives of countless humans hanging in the balance, she’s forced to face off with an enemy she doesn’t even know exists. It’s time to choose her destiny and the clock is running out.

Come take a virtual tour of my book Speak of the Devil!

Virtual Tour Banner

In August 2014, I took a three-day vacation out to a little town in the middle of the northwestern Arizona desert called Meadview.  There isn’t much to the town, but it changed my life and the way I look at life after only three days.  The town is only about a two-hour ride from Las Vegas and once my friend, and I arrived at the little house I had rented, all stresses melted away and the creative juices started flowing.  By the time we left the little slice of paradise to return to the big city, I had Speak of the Devil completed plotted out.  As a result, most of the book takes place in Meadview.

On April 6, 2015, while on a trip back to Las Vegas for The Novel Experience Event, my mom (aka my travel companion) and I took a little drive out to Meadview.  We snapped tons of pictures of the places I mention or describe in the book, all for the express purpose of taking you on a virtual tour of Speak of the Devil.

spoilers

I try to keep everything on my website spoiler-free, but, for the purposes of this post, that’s impossible.  However, this giant banner should be enough of a forewarning.  lol  If you have yet to read Speak of the Devil, some of this will be spoilers to you.  I am going to try my hardest to not blow anything from the book, but I wanted to warn everyone that some stuff may slip through.

So, with that, here we go!

Awwww, you guuuuuuys!!! Speak of the Devil feedback is IN!!!

MINIONS!!!!!! I have feedback from 3 betas so far, another one coming very soon, and one more at the end of the week. The 3 I have so far – GREAT FEEDBACK. Everyone has loved the book so far!!! I love this story soooooooooo much, and I am so happy to see others do, too.

I have a very personal tie to so many things in this book because it was inspired by a town I spent some vacation time in, Meadview AZ. It’s out in the middle of nowhere in the northern Arizona desert, right next to the western rim of the Grand Canyon. I spent three days there, and the entire time, I was just in a continuous state of awe over my surroundings. It’s such a beautiful, peaceful place. I genuinely feels like magic. There are no restaurant chains or oil change places. There are no street lights. There is no traffic. Just you, a jaw-dropping view of the Grand Wash cliffs during the day, and the most expansive view I have ever witnessed of the night sky. Now, I live *sort of* out in the country, so I see a SHIT TON of stars on a clear night here. In comparison to Meadview, my normal view of the night sky looks like a cloudy view of midnight in a smog-filled Los Angeles. lol In Meadview, there are so many stars, you’re unable to stop staring at it. It’s absolutely mesmerizing. Ugh.

Going there was life changing for me. I never thought, in my life, I would say I would be willing to move to a remote place like that. Now, the only reason I wouldn’t move there, is my teenage daughter would KILL me. lol I genuinely fell in love with that place, and I will absolutely go there again someday. Who knows! That may be where I retire to.

The storyline from Speak of the Devil was largely inspired by a seed idea my friend Ron gave me when we were driving back to the house we rented for our vacation. In a space of 10 minutes, we brainstormed it a bit, expanded on it, and when I went home, I wrote the story around it. Writing Speak of the Devil has been like mentally hanging out in Meadview for the last year. Sigh…. So, yeah, I love this book. So much. Below is a picture of the sunrise view of the Grand Wash cliffs I took one more while sipping coffee on the deck at 6:30am.

1231605_712247215468692_1610509397_n

Dreamy, right?

Anyway, I am excited about the beta reactions. I will have 5 betas for feedback on the story and it’s a pool of people I very much trust the option of. They’re a mix of writers, bloggers, and readers, all with very particular taste (not just paranormal romance freaks). I am confident I am getting hard, honest feedback as none of these people are “yes”-men. I was more nervous about sending it to these people than anyone who will read it. lol That they are greenlighting the majority of the book has me beside myself. 🙂 The one thing I have received for “you need to ticker with this part” feedback has been a part of the book I had already suspected was going to need it when I sent the ARC to the team. Having that be the only thing they felt needed work feels indescribable. 🙂

So, I will keep you guys posted. I *should* still have the release date announced on Friday. I will see how my tinkering. 🙂

2 Frikkin Post-Its Left!!!!!

ebookcover72dpiWhen I am editing a book, there are lots of highlighters and Post-It notes involved.  Red pens make me cringe, so, I opt for the far more fun neon-colored highlighters and sticky notes.

When I started the rewrite on Speak of the Devil, it resulted in somewhere in the neighborhood of 20-25 sticky notes.  It hurt my soul.  I am here today to let you all know I am down to the final 2.  Those 2 sticky notes equate to the fixing one 1 scene in Speak of the Devil.  Granted, there are some boogery moments I need to straighten out, but, I swear I’M ALMOST THERE!!!!!!!

That’s actually it for my update today.  I have been focused on the last of the fixes instead of posting on here, so, I thought I would throw you all a super-quick update.

Love you all and thanks so much for your continued support!!!

Speak of the Devil, Facebook sucks, my newsletter, TWO giveaways, paperbacks, and a face lift.

Good evening, minions!! Holy hell. I thought I didn’t have enough to say to warrant a whole blog post, but here we go!

FACE LIFT
As some of you cyber stalkers out there may have seen it already, but I have been doing a little update to my site. What do you think?? I was updating my About The Author section and decided the whole website really looked like it was put together by a troop of men suffering from testosterone poisoning, so, I decided to fix it. Girly it up a bit. Not too much, because that’s really not me, but enough to let everyone know that I have woman bits.

NEWSLETTER
Along with the little face lift project, I decided to start a newsletter. It might be once a week, it might be once a month. I’m not sure yet. The newsletter will contain my book news (obvi), but it’s going to contain lots of other fun stuff. There will be a section of hilarity called Interwebz Gold, in which I will post something positively ridiculous and funny that I find in my adventures on the web. There will also be giveaways and contests exclusive to the newsletter subscribers (I wont be posting them anywhere else). Exclusive content and deleted scenes. Birthday shout outs and little gifties to the subscribers. A ‘What I’m Reading’ section with micro-reviews. Plus some other stuff I am still working out. I have a long list of things I would like to include, I just have to cut it down a bit.

NEWSLETTER SUBSCRIBER GIVEAWAY!!!!
Everyone who signs up for the newsletter between now and September 30, 2014 @ 11:59pm EST will be entered to win 1 of 10 signed and personalized paperbacks of The Devil You Know, the first installment in the Demon Legacy series. Share this sign up form!! If we hit more than 200 subscribers, I will up the count to 20 paperbacks!!!

ANOTHER NEWSLETTER SUBSCRIBER GIVEAWAY!!!
The winners of the paperbacks will be announced here in the newsletter, along with the newsletter’s new name! Got a suggestion for the name??? Email it to me at jmgregoirebooks@gmail.com, and if I pick your suggestion, and can confirm you are also subscribed to the newsletter, you get a $20 Amazon gift card!

FACEBOOK SUCKS AND WHY I AM STARTING THE NEWSLETTER
(Authors and bloggers should both read this….)
It’s no secret that Facebook is the root of all evil. We’re all addicted to it, and, I dont have proof, but I’m pretty sure The Devil was on the Facebook masthead. (*I’m kidding, of course, but hear me out*) If you have a Facebook fan page, I’m sure you’ve felt the frustration which comes with having thousands of “likes”, and only reaching 100 people when you post something. It’s irritating. I have bitched about it, but, in the end, Facebook is a business, and they have to make money. The only way to reach more followers is to post every 15 minutes (more likes/comments = more exposure, but who has time for that?!?) OR pay out the ass. The problem I have with that is I have spent the “lots of dollars” (esurance?) with Facebook and got NEARLY NOTHING in return. No change. I have a little over 2,300 people who have liked my fan page and whenever I post news, the number of people who usually see it is about 87 (Odd number, right? It’s come up tons of times on my posts!). I decided the best way to get the news out to my readers is to have them join my newsletter. Then Facebook can go fuck themselves. I will still post my news on there and still be active on there, but with a newsletter, the chances of my readers missing something important is MUCH lower.

So….

THE DEVIL YOU KNOW PAPERBACKS
Today I submitted the final files for the paperback version of The Devil You Know and these will be available for sale on Amazon and my site (payment via PayPal). However, signed copies are only available through giveaways and at events. So, if you want yours signed, you should come see me at a live event or sign up for my newsletter. (See what I did there?) I will let everyone know the second they are live.

AND FINALLY, SPEAK OF THE DEVIL…
I know you’ve heard it several times now, but Speak of the Devil is almost done. Officially. It’s written in full and now I am just doing some tweaking. With the holiday weekend, I have 3 days of writing time. I am hoping to bang out the rest of what I have to get done on my self-editing to-do list this weekend. Then it goes out to betas, then my editor. Once I have it back from the editor, I will be deciding on my release date. So, stay tunes (OR GO SIGN UP FOR MY NEWSLETTER!!!)

You will all hear from me real soon. The second I hit save on my final change in Speak, you better believe all of social media will be flooded with me freaking out.

I love you all and thank you so much for your undying support. You’re rockstars, for realsies!

I’m pouting and it’s partly Hardwick’s fault…. (@Nerdist #SDCC )

I’m sitting here at my desk…..pouting. I know I could be doing something productive, like maybe working on Speak of the Devil or one of the other 8,000,000,000,000.3 things I have on my never-ending to-do list.

But, no.

I’m pouting.

Why? You want to know why?!?!?!?!

MAYBE BECAUSE CHRIS HARDWICK IS DOING THIS:

Hardwick_BTTF_html

There is only one reason the King of the Nerds would be dressed as Marty McFly (aside from it being, you know, a Thursday…..).

You got it. Comic Con has started.

comic-con-logo-image
“Discovered by the Germans in 1904, they named it San Diego, which of course in German means ‘a whale’s vagina.’” — Ron Burgundy

Well, it actually kicked off last night for preview night, but today is when the flood gates really opened.

And I’m pouting because I am not there. I am at work, almost as far from Comic Con as I could possibly get without leaving the country (I live all the way over in New Hampshire).

But I’m not bitter. Once again, I am sayin’…..NEXT YEAR.

Next year, SDCC……YOU ARE MINE!!!!

Evil-Smile3

For now, I will just stalk Nerdist.com and @Nerdist for my updates. Sigh….  To all the lucky peeps at SDCC, I am sending my good vibes your way and wishing you all a wonderful con!

jena-new-2

P.S.
MINION MISSION:  If any of my readers are there at SDCC, or anywhere really, SEND ME YOUR SELFIES!!! I will be posting a photo album on my site soon – a gallery of my minions in selfies, so get creative with your smartphones and email the results to me at jmgregoirebooks@gmail.com!

Please, no peckers, nipples, or other various unmentionable bits. I don’t want to open my inbox pre-coffee and drop from a massive coronary event. One needs coffee to cope with that sort of thing.  Ok, I am going back to working on Speak of the Devil.  😉   #amwriting

‘Speak of the Devil’ Update….

Good morning, minions, and Happy Hump Day!

Almost there!  I AM ALMOST THERE!!!  I have some finishing touches to put on this bad mammajamma and Speak of the Devil will be DONE.

Coming Soon Banner Red

My editor is dying to get her paws on it, so I am sure she will be relieved to see this post.  I probably have about 3 more days worth of work to do on it, then it will be ready to fire off to her.

Getting this book ready has been a much longer road than I had planned, but I am incredibly happy with the result.  I love the story and I cant wait to get started on the next book.  I had a story revelation this morning on my way to work, and you guys are either going to love me for the next book, and you’re going to hate me with the fiery passion of a thousand suns.  We shall see…

Anyway, just wanted to drop in and give you an update.  🙂  I desperately need coffee and then I am back to working on Speak.

NEWS: Speak of the Devil Update…

Greetings, humans!

I announced this on my Facebook page the other day, but wanted to post something here for those who may have missed it.

I have decided to postpone the release of Speak of the Devil, and I am not going to announce a new release date quite yet.  I want to have the book in my editor’s hands before I commit to a date.

It’s so very, very close to being done, I am just not 100% happy with it.  Not yet.  It’s almost there, and given my “advice” in the Open Letter to Indie Authors, I decided to wait until I am sure I am hitting publish on a book that is the best I can make it be.

So, for now, I have changed the Goodreads page to say August 2014.  However, Speak will be published much sooner than that.  I just dont know the exact date yet.

Thank you all so much for your continued support!  I am, as always, so very grateful!
