September sucked. Back to school is my least favorite part of the year and I cannot wait for my son to be done with the whole thing. Just a couple more years to go and I’m free. Until then, his misery is my misery. Ass crack of dawn bus schedules and ADHD hoop jumping. I will say that things have gotten better for kids with ADHD since my diagnosis twenty-something years ago. Med options are better, support is better, and the understanding of how ADHD brains work is better. His experience at school has been vastly different from my own back in the day. I really am thankful that things are easier for him. I still can’t wait for his high school career to be over. One day, I will dream of beautiful things while sleeping until well after the sun comes up. For now, I’m dreaming of other things. Apparently.
I woke up this morning with an immediate and overwhelming feeling of loss. To the point that it brought tears to my eyes and I spent the next few hours tearing up randomly. I knew that I’d been dreaming but the second my eyes opened, whatever I was dreaming about slipped away. In a rush, all at once. Well, all except one small memory. In the dream, I was sitting on my farmer’s porch and the tree in front of my house (which isn’t there in real life) was absolutely covered in monarch butterflies. Every branch, every leaf. All I could see was a mass of black and burnt orange wings lightly fluttering. That’s the only memory from whatever that dream was that left me so frikkin sad. I don’t spend much time thinking about what my dreams mean but I decided to look up what their queenly presence might mean and according to the interwebs, butterflies appearing in your dream are supposed to signify a desire for change. I can help but wonder if my butterflies were about not wanting things to change. Some might argue that summer being over would be a good reason to start crying…
Okay, I’m done pouting about the end of summer, I promise. The leaves are turning signaling the arrival of fall. Halloween begins tomorrow. I’ve already stopped with my iced Witch’s Brew orders. The morning temps are no longer warm enough to justify defiling my coffee with ice. That just means that it’s time to bust out the slipper shoes and spooky decorations. I’m totally here for it. And speaking of Halloween, I have something I think you guys might like. Well, I don’t have it. My friend AK Nevermore does!
