Are you a Whovian?

As a kid, I watched Doctor Who every Saturday afternoon/evening with my parents on PBS. However, I didn’t begin watching the modern episodes until sometime in the mid-20-teens. I started with Chris Eccleston’s 9th Doctor, who was an excellent Doctor, and watched all the way current. Out of all the companions, I truly adored Rose Tyler.

Their only season together back in 2005 was built around the Bad Wolf storyline. Throughout the whole season, you see the words bad wolf popping up all over the place in random spots. By the end of the season, the Doctor is in trouble and in an effort to save him, Rose looks into the heart of the TARDIS and into the time vortex itself, effectively becoming an all-powerful being called Bad Wolf. She then spreads the words bad wolf across all of time and space to act as the breadcrumb trail that would lead them to that moment.

After that storyline wrapped up, the words bad wolf continued to turn up on the show and as a diehard fan, I thought it would be fun to one day write a book titled Bad Wolf as a little nod to my fellow Whovians out there. As though my book were one of the Bad Wolf’s breadcrumbs. At the time, I jotted it in a notebook but I didn’t have a book planned for it. Just the thought that I would one day use it as a title.

While I was working on the first Executioner book, I used Bad Wolf as a placeholder title but as I finished the manuscript, I actually decided to keep it. It fit the book better than anything else I had come up with. As an added little nugget for fans to pick up on when reading the book, Tessa (one of the series main characters) is a Doctor Who fan and she gets a very Whovian-esque gift for her birthday from Marisol and Natalia.

To be clear, my series has nothing to do with Doctor Who, nor is it science fiction. The Executioner series is urban fantasy romance with a supernatural hunter, werewolves, vampires, witches, and a whole lot more. Aliens, however, are not on that list. 👽 Keep reading to check out Tessa’s Whovian-esque birthday gift from the witches of the Walker Coven.

“Hi, guys,” Tessa announced as we approached the group.

“Hey, happy birthday,” Red replied with a big smile.

“We’re almost done,” Marisol informed us, then she smiled at Tessa and me. “Hello, ladies.”

We both gave a little wave and went to see what they were doing. As we joined the witches, a soft blue glow began emanating from their hands and it was only then that I realized they were chanting quietly. The glow crept skyward and spread over our heads. Suddenly, an entire galaxy blossomed above us. The twinkle lights were no longer visible through the canvas of galaxies and nebulas.

“Oh my God,” Tessa whispered, with her hands over her mouth. She waltzed around, staring up in wonder. Natalia and Marisol finished their spell and they both smiled in appreciation of their creation.

“I asked them to handle the decorations,” Marcel said as he stepped up beside me.

“That’s way better than anything they could have ever gotten at a party store,” I replied. “Nice work. Thank you, guys.”

“The spell will last about five hours, give or take,” Natalia explained. “The trellis has been enchanted so no one can see the light show outside of it. And it’s climate controlled. A little something I threw in.”

Rose’s Bad Wolf Speech on Doctor Who

My Breadcrumb From the Bad Wolf

When Jamie Hayes left home in a heartbroken rage, she had no plan, no money, and nowhere to go. Meeting Marcel Cross, a werewolf alpha, and Kade Walker, the head of a vampire coven, changed all of that. Now she’s got a new life, complete with a job as the first Executioner in the New York chapter of the Executioners Guild. Her mission is to take out as many demons as she can and keep the supernatural bad seeds in line while she’s at it.

The police are searching for a serial rapist in the area, one with a penchant for beautiful young blondes and a habit of leaving no survivors. When a female vamp from the Walker Coven disappears, the Guild gets involved, and Jamie’s first assignment is to track Jacqueline down and bring her home safe before she ends up like the others.

The hunt is on. If Jamie’s not careful, she could wind up becoming the next prey.
