I just got done shoveling snow. Again. This feels like the twelfth storm in four days. And yes, I know that’s impossible but tell my poor noodle-y arms that. I can’t wait for global warming to results in New Hampshire only experiencing a Summer season. Okay, not really, but enough with the snow already.
I do have to admit that a morning after a foot of snow getting dropped (and it’s still coming down), it is really beautiful for a minute. When it’s all still bright white and unyuckified by plows. I don’t know if you can see it in the pic or not but the local herd of lady deer has already passed through this morning, leaving a trench marking their path in the fresh snow to narc out their presence. There is no hunting allowed on my land so I like to think they come through every night because they know it’s safe.
Have I told you that Threads has become my favorite place to hang out? It’s true. I get that it’s owned by Meta and will eventually turn into another dumpster fire but for right now, it’s super-easy to curate your feed (the way the Twitter of Olde was) and I don’t get bombarded by sponsored ads. They’re there but on Facebook, my feed is ad, ad, ad, post that’s five days old, ad, ad, my own post from two weeks ago, ad, ad, ad, post from three minutes ago but I don’t remember being friends with that person, ad, ad, ad… and so on. I don’t deal with that on Threads. Plus, it’s where I talk about dark romance reads as I am reading them. Follow me @theaverylennox and/or @jenagregoire (though I do most of my hanging out on my Avery account, my website’s blog feeds to the Jena account).
Speaking of dark romance reads, last week, I read Chaotic by Shantel Tessier and sobbed through half of it. You know I have a hard time choosing a favorite Lord but Kaston might be at the top of my list now. This was a he falls first trope and man, he fell hard. Who knew big, bad Spade brother Kashton Pierce was a mushy gushy romantic at heart? Fantastic book! Long AF (283,000 words in a standalone novel, my friends) but so worth every minute. None of it felt wasted in the slightest. I also read the A Violent Agenda series by Mallory Fox. Really good series but I feel like you have to know going in that the FMC seems to be a true psychopath and never really has the big love revelation moment. She finds her own kind of peace and contentment but I could see some people getting upset that the HEA isn’t bigger. I thought it fit the story nicely though. Last but certainly not least, I read Haunted by Selena Winters. This series, the Blackwood Brothers, has been on my TBR pile for a while now. Each book follows a different brother. I’ve only read the first book but man, that was an intense ride. Masked men, a primal hunt, and half the agreement in the dark to the reader. It makes for some pulse-pounding pages. Super-spicy spice too but it’s not for the faint of heart, I promise you that. I’ve queued up Doomed (the second book in the series) but it wont be one I rush to read right away. I started it but it seems to run in tandem with the timeline of the first book (same hunt, starts at the same time) and it feels a little repetitive when jumping right in. I will be finishing the series at some point though.
TEASERS! I have two teasers for you! Okay so a tiny nugget of information for you before I point you off to my teasers. If you’ve been following my socials or newsletter for any length of time, you’re probably aware that I have a book coming called Reaper. Well, not anymore. The book still exists but now it’s a dark why choose with a touch of comedy called Atropos. So far, I’ve shared two teasers for Atropos – one where you meet Harlow Kane (the FMC of the book) and Dante Riggs (one of the three MMCs). I will have one to introduce Rex and Reaper as well. The book didn’t start out as why choose. Reaper was supposed to be the only MMC but the others just kind of popped up and I didn’t want to make them stop flirting with Harlow. I love the vibe and as soon as I made the choice to change the direction of the story, all the pieces I had up in the air fell into place perfectly. Here is where I need your help. Pop on over to Instagram and ❤️ or comment on the Harlow teaser and on the Dante teaser so other readers can see them too!

She has rules. He doesn’t follow them. And somewhere between
the rain-slick streets of Hamburg and the heat between messages, they start to unravel.
Merle lives by her rituals: no first-date sex, no loss of control, and never — ever — letting someone see her fully. In the fog-wrapped city of Hamburg, she moves like a ghost with purpose, controlled, elegant, untouchable. Until Santiago arrives.
He’s a traveling comedian with nothing to prove and everything to hide. Charming, disarming, and unexpectedly deep, he stumbles into her rhythm with jokes that cut too close, voice notes that linger too long, and a gaze that refuses to look away.
What begins as playful flirtation through late-night texts soon deepens into something far more dangerous: a test of emotional restraint, erotic tension, and the hidden parts of ourselves we never show.
UNDER FALSE LIGHTS, the first dark romance in the Into Obsession series by Bruno Clozel.

One clinically chaotic woman. Three fraternity kings.
What happens when you underestimate the ‘crazy’ girl? Sometimes daisies bite…
DAISY
They called me broken. Dangerous. I was sent to a facility; their perfect patient. Now? I’m back after ten years, and the notes appearing in my room suggest my mother’s death wasn’t the accident everyone claims. Living under my stepbrother’s roof should be simple. Keep my head down. Start fresh. But Shade isn’t the boy who once made my darkness bearable – he’s a ruthless man with dangerous friends and sinister secrets. They want me gone. Broken. Sent back to the facility that stripped me of everything but my brilliant mind. They’ll use every weapon in their arsenal – cruelty, seduction, manipulation – to make me crumble. What they don’t realize? A decade in chains taught me patience. And the girl they’re trying to destroy might be the key to their own undoing.
SHADE
I never expected my stepmom’s daughter to return. Now she’s living in my house, threatening everything my friends and I have planned. She’s a liability. A weakness. A temptation none of us can resist. Our mission is simple: destroy her. Send her back. But her genius rivals ours, and her darkness? It’s a song we’re all too familiar with. And the girl we’re meant to break … is quickly becoming the obsession we can’t escape.
