I currently live in New Hampshire. I was born here, raised here, and for a long time, I was convinced I would never get out of here. Then, in 2011, I hopped on an airplane for the first time and flew to Las Vegas, Nevada for the Toastmasters International Convention (do not judge my dorkiness). I never imagined that my first time really leaving home (beyond the Northeast region) was going to be to the other side of the country. Since then, I’ve been back out to Las Vegas eight more times, all by airplane. If I were to plan out a new cross-country trip, I would love to try doing it a different way.

I would like to try a cross-country trip on the ground but I need to plan at least two different trips. A trip via train has an almost romantic feel to the idea. My mom and I looked into doing a cross-country trip via train when my son was very young. My son would get to spend a few days freaking out over the train (he was obsessed back then), I could write in the cabin, and we’d get to enjoy the scenic route across the bottom of the country (it started in Pennsylvania and ended in California). Now that my son is grown, I would be happy to rent a cabin and take the trip exclusively for writing during the day with cocktail hours at night.
The ultimate would be a little more hands on. I would love love LOVE to do a cross-country road trip by car during the summer. Specifically in a Jeep Wrangler with a roof-mounted tent so I could take my time, see tons of the country, and not blow an obscene amount of money on hotels. Rather than a separate trip for a bike, we’re going to add a trailer and toss a brand new Honda CBR600RR on there for funsies.
How would you travel for a cross-country trip?
