One of the things I see a lot in my Pure Textuality travels is author interviews on other blogs. One of the more popular questions to authors is in regards to what music they listen to when writing. Well, I got thinking about this idea of music while writing and I am one of those people that DOES listen to music while I am writing. It sort of puts me in the right mindset for the feeling I am trying to capture in some scenes.
For instance, there’s a relatively tense and somewhat violent scene in Burning and the song that I listened to (repeatedly) while writing that scene was Sweet Dreams by Marilyn Manson. That song has always struck me as creepy and cold and that’s the atmosphere I was going for in that particular scene. The Big Bad in Burning (and The Devil You Know) is a lot of fun to write but he’s not me.
I am not at a point where anyone wants to interview me (yet…..hopefully) but I thought it would still be fun to throw together a list to show you what I listen to when I am writing the Demon Legacy series. So here’s my playlist, straight off the trusty Sound Machine (that’s my dorky name for my iPod).

That’s my playlist from what I have on my iPod right now. The overall feel of the music is dark, fun, sexy and creepy as hell at times. 🙂
That is so true, music is a great influence while writing. It creates a certain mood, and it is up to the writer to translate that mood into words. Great job with Burning! What is your next step? Another round of editing?
You will probably see another copy of Burning before I dub it “final”. I am working on the edits I got for feedback now and then it’s one more time back out to you guys. 🙂
